Renters
Be aware!
Be cautious about sharing personal information, financial information or payments with people you have not met. Legitimate landlords will not request payment before showing you a property.
Be particularly cautious of requests for money through methods that aren't easily reversed or disputed. This includes wire transfers, cash, or cashier's check, as well as apps like Zelle, PayPal or Venmo. Any legitimate landlord will be able to receive deposits through traditional channels.
A good rule of thumb: if it looks too good to be true, it probably is.
